Monday- Students will simulate how camouflage is beneficial in survival be simulating birds eating worms.
Tuesday- Students will review speciation and how a new species forms. Wednesday/thursday- Students will read the story of the peppered moth and complete a lab simulation on the peppered moths. Peppered Moth Simulation. Friday- Complete Peppered Moth Simulation Lab. Monday and Tuesday- Begin How Organism Change Over Time Unit and complete Notetakers. Note Taker 1 and Note Taker 2.
Wednesday/Thursday- Students will simulate how organisms adaptations help them to survive. Students will use different tools to represent bird beaks and discover which food source their beak is best suited. Students will view and experience Awesome Adaptations. Friday- Students will discuss Natural Selection and create a comic strip showing the steps of natural selection. Monday- Students will read current events regarding Genetics and Albinism.
Tuesday- Students discuss Meiosis. Wednesday/Thursday- Students will complete a lab where their will extract their own DNA from their check cells. DNA Extraction Lab. Friday- Genetics Quiz on Probability, Genotypes, Phenotypes and Punnett Squares. Monday- Students Read about Mendel and his Peas.
Tuesday- Students completed notetaker on a self-pollinating Flower's Structure. Flower Notetaker. Flower Parts Notetaker Completed. Wednesday and Thursday- Students will complete a Flower Dissection lab. Friday- Students will view a video on cloning. Video- The Clone Age. Week of 2/13 Monday Thru Friday- Special Schedule due to 8th grade writing exam. Students worked on Genetics Vocabulary by using whiteboards and creating punnett squares to determine the probability for certain traits. 2.17- Guinea Pig Genetics Lab completed in class.
Week of 2/21- Tuesday- Students took a classroom assessment of common traits to hypothesize about what traits were dominant and which were recessive. 2/22 and 2/23- Students completed Genetics With A Smile Lab by flipping a coin to represent the different alleles for a trait then they created the offspring with the traits. 2. |
